Back in late December 2018, I started on a journey to re-record all the music on my site, from the inferior .mp3 format into the .wav format, to use up my 25Gb of space and at the same time improve the sound quality.

Since then, a few things have changed:

  • My 25Gb of space is now 50Gb (41,5Gb used)
  • After a while, I forgot about my ‘one-shot’ rule
  • I also forgot about the less than 60 seconds rule
  • My favorite audio editing tool Adobe Audition version 3, stopped working around Windows 10 update 20H221H1‘ish
  • Apparently there doesn’t exist a decent audio editing tool:
    • a light weight and responsive program without to much “glue’ing”
    • with simple mark, zoom, edit and cut functionality
    • with features or add-ons to fade, mix and normalize – without the need of a higher technical exam
    • without the enforcement of a useless multi track feature
    • and without the need for cloud enabling
  • And lastly, a number of new sound file formats has emerged with improved sound quality

And a new exception

Some of the music files won’t be available in the .wav file format, as these are available on CD’s for purchase (compilation or albums). Currently, these tracks will remain in the .mp3 file format and those are:

  • Chris Abbott – remixed
  • Instant Remedy – remixed
  • Machinae Supremacy – remake/remixed

Software

I’ve been through a number of audio editor products, to replace my beloved Adobe Audition 3.0, and the closest product to replace it is Sound Forge Audio Studio – BUT it also sucks. The zoom and mark functionality are useless at best. For some reason, complexity is a keyword for most of these audio editors and it seems like musicians apparently don’t need to be effective in their productions.

Maybe they have all the time in the world.

Another way!

Currently, I have 25Gb of space at one.com, and I thought that it would be fun to use up all of that space, now that I’m paying for it anyway. So, I’ve come up with the idea to replace all the .mp3 files on this site with .wav files and also to get a better quality.

Whom to pick

The battle is between Paul van der Valk (with Hybris) and Ron Klaren (with Battle Squardon), and I thinking of choosing Hybris as the first title to re-export or re-grab, because I won’t just deflate the .mp3‘s hence the quality loss.

As I run through all the posts, replacing files, I’ve decided to only do “one-shot” and also removing jingles and sound effects (most of the files that’s less that 60 seconds).

Stay tuned.

I’m currently working on translating my old danish retro items from my old site, into posts on this english language site.

Second; I’m having trouble with accepting, how the image-slider are managed and even more annoying how my images are displayed. So this means that for now, all gallery images are left out. So if you bump into the tag ‘IMAGE’, this means that, sometime in the future, there will be added an image or an image-slider in that place.
