Take a trip back in time, and listen to some of the work of Martin Noriander (Instant Remedy). I have stumbled upon a guy, whom understand my point of view (continued from here), when he makes a cover, tribute or … Continue reading

An Ode to Tribute

When you do a tribute, cover or even a remix of an other artists song, I believe that, you have to honor and respect the originality, feel and expression of that track. By this I mean, that you have to take it to another level, and not just “do your own shit” of it.

All to many cover versions and tributes butchers the originality in those songs. Not just in your everyday music but also in the chiptune community.

That being said … I have gathered some cover songs from different artists, which I believe live up to being a great cover version and a tribute to the original song. Your opinion may differ

Lizardking #2

Take a trip back in time, and listen to some of the work of Gustaf Grefberg (Lizardking).

I went through some of my old data on my storage unit this morning, and I found some of my old downloads. Some of the songs are dated 1994-1995 but I cannot verify all of them.

I think that Gustaf Grefberg went through a “phase” at the time, hence the “World of …” naming.

I especially like the “World of Unicorns” song. It’s not everyday, a song this is so emotional from the “King of Doskpop”.

Lizardking

Take a trip back in time, and listen to some of the work of Gustaf Grefberg (Lizardking).

Lizardking started, as many others, on the Commodore 64. At some point in time he went, from the 8- and 16-bit home computers, to the 32/64 bit personal computer (PC).

Most of the songs I’ve got from The Mod Archive and they are in the XM file format, which is from the Fasttracker 2. I have enclosed some songs of Lizardking, from sources in MOD, S3M and XM format.

The song ‘Claustrophobia’ is super cool and characterize the ‘Doskpop’ style, as he called it. The ‘Doskpop intro’ are a slow version of Claustrophobia, but in only 4 channels (MOD).

The next logical step, after all the music from the old-skool 8-bit platform of Commodore 64 and the 16-bit platforms of Atari ST and Amiga, is the 32-bit and now 64-bit, PC platform. This was many years before integrated, standardized … Continue reading
